Dimitrios Tsiokaras is an Australian lighting designer and artist. His work spans architectural lighting practice and the use of light as an artistic medium.
He is a Senior Lighting Designer at Electrolight's Melbourne studio, where he leads multidisciplinary teams on lighting for hotels, public spaces, restaurants, and commercial and residential buildings. He holds a Bachelor of Design in Interior Design (Honours) and a Master of Design in Lighting from the University of Technology Sydney, where his research looked at how light shapes spatial experience and perception.
His current focus is luminous restraint and atmospheric richness: how little light a space actually needs, and how shadow, contrast and darkness can do as much work as illumination. This research runs through both his consulting projects and his own work.
Alongside his practice, Dimitrios photographs light, shadow and form, and makes sculptures, furniture and illuminated objects that treat light as both subject and material.
Earlier roles include Assistant Studio Manager at CHRISTOPHER BOOTS and lecturing at UTS and RMIT. He has independently designed lighting installations for Vivid Sydney 2016 and Secret Garden Festival in 2012 and 2013, and worked as a production and lighting assistant on Entropico's Quit Your Day Job, Kage's Flesh and Bone, and Darlinghurst Theatre Co.'s Torch Song Trilogy.
